Coffee shop and ice cream parlor

The café and ice cream shop “My Sweet” is a year-round establishment located right by the beach, with no marked seasonality. Vitale carried out the branding and interior design project with the goal of creating a small urban oasis by the sea. The business, with its traditional and homey spirit, invites guests to spend long hours with a good coffee, chatting, or working with a laptop.

The phrase “home, my sweet home” inspired the design of the space, where environments with various seating arrangements, rest areas, and places to enjoy something sweet are created in a romantic and nostalgic atmosphere.

Vintage aesthetic

The porcelain stoneware flooring is divided into large rugs, creating rhythm within the space through a combination of cement finishes and vintage-style wood

Cafeteria layout plan

The layout minimizes space for preparation areas and the bar to maximize the seating area. Customers can enjoy views of the sea with the proper arrangement of furniture. High tables with stools and more relaxed areas with sofas, benches, and rocking chairs provide flexibility and create different environments within the café. The central arches act as dividers between spaces and as the main axis of the layout.

Selection of traditional materials

Traditional Mediterranean materials such as ceramic lattice and darkened pine wood are emphasized, combined with colors associated with baking, bringing a sweet and cheerful touch. Recovered beams from the previous business in the location were used to cover the counter and create custom-designed furniture pieces, like benches and tables. The beams were also used to make 400 solid wood cubes for ceiling decoration, improving the acoustics of the space.

Lighting design

The ceramic lattices become a key feature, playing with the light throughout the day, diffusing it, and creating shadows that provide the necessary level of intimacy to separate areas. The space is illuminated with warm and indirect lighting, with targeted lighting at some tables and the bar. Decorative elements include suspended lamps made from baking molds, a nod to traditional artisanal pastry-making. The result is a cosmopolitan and cozy atmosphere where customer comfort is prioritized.

Before and After

The business occupies part of the lower floor of a hotel, located in a prime spot next to the Mediterranean Sea (just a few meters from the beach). The 155 m² location has a regular floor plan but features large pillars and low ceilings, which influenced the design and air conditioning installations

Branding

For the design of My Sweet, a visual and verbal identity is created that reflects the essence of an exclusive and welcoming business, ideal for enjoying sweet and delicious products in a relaxed atmosphere. The name “My Sweet” is chosen for its sound and emotional connection to sweetness, love, and nostalgia, reflecting the homely spirit intended for the space. Bougainvillea is used as the primary color, associated with pastries, romance, and softness, while secondary tones like mint, pink, sand, and chocolate complement the palette, enhancing warmth and sweetness. Rounded, clear typography conveys approachability and accessibility, while the logo, inspired by traditional cookies, reinforces the emotional connection and nostalgia of home.
